THE OSSIPEE LINE

Center Ossipee, New Hampshire

The other open rail approved for Railriding is in Center Ossipee. To save you from possible confusion there are 3 Ossipee towns on the map...Ossipee, Center Ossipee and West Ossipee. The tracks are in Center Ossipee Village.

From south Route 16 take a left at the Center Ossipee turnoff, watch for signs to Center Ossipee Village, travel about 3/4 mile, you'll see the tracks crossing the road in the center of the village, park behind the white church (old freight station). Across the street is the track that travels towards Conway, you'll see them next to a beautiful old flour elevator.

Be prepared to stop from time to time due to some tar over roads, washouts, boats parked on the tracks, and in one place a trucking company has covered over the track. You will go past picturesque Silver Lake, some pine forests and wetlands, you'll see birds, animals. See in my pictures; Mr. and Mrs. Geese and their kids, the deer crossing right in front of us, look how close we are. That's because RailANTs have poly wheels, they are quiet. A RailANT is light, it can go over and around all these things in your path to give you a very interesting adventure. The other track, next to Church and old station, takes you towards Ossipee, woods and wetlands, where again you'll see wildlife. On this section is a long upgrade, not that hard to go up, but the ride down is great.

If you use these lines, contact THE COTTON VALLEY RAIL TRAIL CLUB and the next time they are having a maintenance day and go out there with them. They are a great bunch of people.
